The best miniature should be able to do it all, but not all can.. Some mini chainsaws are just designed better than others.

Take, for example, the Taranzy Mini Chainsaw - a small beast of a handheld electric saw. It does exactly what it should: rips through small trees and branches better than the rest.

Today, we'll be looking at the Taranzy 6-inch Mini Rechargeable Chainsaw. Taranzy is one of the very few American businesses making mini chainsaws.

It's based over in Wyoming and is pretty well known for the quality of its tools.

But is it a premium chainsaw?

Does it do what it advertises?

Lets find out.

Opening The Box On The Taranzy Mini Chainsaw

So what's in the box? Let's take a look.

  • The Mini Chainsaw
  • Pair of gloves
  • 2 batteries
  • Charger
  • Screwdriver
  • Safety glasses
  • Instructions
  • Chain
  • Oil bottle (no oil)
  • and of course, the quality storage container

What's It Used For?

The Taranzy Mini Chainsaw is perfect for small jobs around the house. It isn't meant for commercial work - no, it's meant for the home owner looking to:

  • Trim wood lines around the house
  • DIY Projects like construction or home improvement (didn't try this)
  • Pruning branches
  • Wood cutting
  • Fast trimming trees

Small stuff. It isn't a traditional chainsaw, no - it's a mini chainsaw.

Specifications

Let's take a look at some of the specifications on this bad boy:

  • Price: $59.60
  • Bar Size: 6-inch
  • Battery Capacity: 21V 2.0 Ah
  • Weight: 1.87 lbs.
  • Chain Speed: 19.2 ft/s
  • Features: American-made, premium steel blade, rust free chain plate
  • Warranty: 18 Months

These are right off the box: things like chain speed, the powerful pure copper motor, and high-quality materials - don't worry, we will put it all to the test.

For the sake of this review, I'm actually going to use the instructions included in the box.

Warranty & Instructions

Warranty

Actually, the paper is labeled, "REGISTER WARRANTY & VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS." Doesn't seem to cryptic but let's go ahead and see what it means...

There is a QR Code that says 'SCAN ME'. I was a little confused because the link took me directly to their Facebook page and encouraged me to open up the messenger app.

Now, Sweet New Earth has a Facebook for business reasons but I don't use it for personal anything. So instead I just googled 'Taranzy Register Warranty' and the page came right up.

taranzy warranty screen

According to Amazon and the Taranzy website, these chainsaws have an 18 month warranty. That's pretty cool.

Most of the other brands don't have a warranty listed - I'm sure they have warranties, just not listed.

And most of the other brands have poor customer support. So far, I'm not seeing that with Taranzy.

Instructions

So the same QR code that takes you to the warranty page is supposed to take you to the instructional YouTube.

Of course, I refused to use Facebook so that's maybe on me - but I did find the it easy enough on their YouTube Page.

It's basically a powerpoint of Dos & Don'ts for the tool. Like, 'do' regularly oil up the chain and 'don't' cut over 6 inch pieces of wood, 'don't' overuse machine. For the absolute dearth of production on this this, I kind of like it.

It then goes into actual footage including things like how to oil the chain, how to tighten the chain, how to charge the battery, etc. Straight forward and generic advice but I don't have to read any fine print to find it. It's in the video.

Check it out. It's really not bad technical support.

Since I wanted to test out the warranty function, I emailed the company and they got back to me right away. They definitely care about customer satisfaction.

The warranty itself is standard - if the tool is sent to you with any defaults, they'll send you a new one, no questions asked.

Weight

Call me crazy but I wanted to actually weigh out the mini chainsaw. Without it, I weighed 192 lbs.

While holding it, I weighed 194.6 lbs (with the battery). Do the math and thats 2.6 lbs.

Now, my scale isn't exactly the pinnacle of modern measurement but I trust it enough.

Again, this might seem crazy but weighing out the tool is important because of who might be using it.

If the product description says, 'even the tiniest girl' can cut down trees like butter, we want to put that to the test.

Amazon says it weighs 1.87 lbs so I tried it again without the battery. Without it, I weighed 193.4 lbs. Again, do the hard math and you get 1.4 lbs.

Ergonomics & Safety

Regardless, it has a both an ergonomic design and a lightweight design. It has the motor on the outside if you are right handed, and the blade on the inside.

It has a security switch near the trigger to avoid an accidental start. It boasts that you will "enjoy double protection" because it has both the security switch and the splash guard.

It even comes with safety glasses so maybe you get... triple protection! Heh.

Anyways, nothing wrong with a little more safety, which is of paramount importance with chainsaws. The chain stops precisely when you release the trigger.

It's designed to be used with one hand. As with all these one handed chainsaws, it can be tough to get into really small spaces because of that bulky motor.

But you won't be getting into the same small spaces with a large chainsaw either.

Battery

taranzy 2.0Ah battery

The chainsaw comes with two 2.0Ah 21V Lithium Ion batteries. In a perfect, laboratory-driven environment, you'll probably get 45 minutes of use with the tool. Not bad for a battery chainsaw.

I was cutting for over a half hour (not straight) and the chainsaw was still going. Not only that, but there is a second battery to keep the job moving when the first one dies.

It took a couple of hours to get a fully charged battery, so make sure you charge it ahead of time. Most batteries take this long, but it is a pretty fast charger.

How Well Does The Taranzy Mini Chainsaw Cut?

6 inch bar

Okay, now with all that out of the way - let's get right into how well the Taranzy mini chainsaw actually cuts. Unlike a traditional chainsaw, you hold the tool with one hand and you use the other hand for leverage.

The instruction manual says not to cut over 6-inches with the blade which makes sense because it has a 6-inch blade.

I know some of you might try it, but 6-inches is a lot. You really don't need to push the envelope with a miniature chainsaw. Just get a chainsaw for cutting trees!

But I digrees. I just feel like mini chainsaws get a bad rep sometimes because people are using them for things they aren't meant for - like felling a massive tree! Anyways, let's go!

A lot of times people complain that if you have a 6-inch chain, you only get about 5-inches of cutting room with the bag. We've proven that's not really the case here.

To us there is actually over 6-inches - not if you are cutting something exactly 6-inches, sure you might have a problem. But just under 6 should be no problem.

Taranzy Mini Chainsaw: The Bottom Line

The Taranzy Mini Chainsaw is a superstar machine that passed all our tests. We can safely recommend this chainsaw and this brand to anyone looking for a new tool. It's great for small jobs around the house.

It has enough power to get through a thick branch so you know you can cut anything little, and you can pretty rip through any small or medium tree. You really can't go wrong.
