Best Overall Mini Chainsaw: Tarenzy 6-inch Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a small but reliable mini chainsaw for odd jobs around the house & excellent customer service to back up their product.
Tarenzy 6-Inch Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Lightweight 6-inch mini chainsaw
- Tree trimming, gardening and other DIY Projects
- Handheld electric saw
- Chain speed of 19.2 ft/s
PROS
CONS
Right out of the gate, we like the Tarenzy Mini Chainsaw.
When you open the box (which is an actual reusable box and not a cardboard mess) you are greeted with a welcome letter from Tarenzy.
That to me shows we might be dealing with a real, genuine company rather than some big box store. In fact, I followed up on this and actually found out that Tarenzy is an American made product.
The chainsaw comes with a bunch of goodies:
- Tarenzy Mini Chainsaw
- Screwdriver
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
- 2 batteries (21V, 2.0Ah)
- Charger
- Spare chain

Anyways, you'll notice the chainsaw is super lightweight, and the trigger feels great. It's a single trigger pull that is not variable but the chain moves quite fast.
Tarenzy states the chain moves at 19.2 ft/s which is comparable to the other big brands like Saker or Makita. One unique feature to the Taranzy is that every time you cut, it turns on a small spotlight.
I will admit that when using this during daylight, I'm not yet sure of the purpose of a spotlight. I can see just fine with the sun. If you start cutting wood at night, or you need to finagle into dark nooks or crannies, maybe then the spotlight has a purpose.
You'll have to pick up some bar and chain oil before you use it. If you are planning on cutting down fruit trees or anything where you are harvesting plants, use vegetable oil so as not to get petroleum on your food.
With a 6-inch blade, 5 inches is on the top end of what you can cut with it. But it really cuts smoothly for anything up to 5-inches. I wouldn't imagine extensive cutting of larger branches or even tree roots of 5 to 6 inches however, you can cut smaller branches all day.
I actually had my older brother (who has over 15 years of experience working in construction) test out the saw, too. His response after cutting a few branches was, 'Wow, this thing is sweet!' After a few branches, we noticed the chain was a bit loose.
Without any guidance or direction, he was able to intuitively tighten the chain back to normal. That's how easy it is to use (granted, he is an expert with power tools).
Most of the time you dont need a giant chainsaw because you aren't felling huge trees around the house. But for small, lightweight tasks, you can't go wrong with the Tarenzy.

Best Budget Mini Chainsaw: Bomves 6-inch Cordless Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a faster cutting mini chainsaw.
Bomves 6-Inch Cordless

SNE Score: 4.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Lightweight 6-inch mini chainsaw
- Made in China
- Larger battery capacity
- Chain speed of 19.7 ft/s
PROS
CONS
The Bomves 6-Inch Electric, Cordless chainsaw is the most popular mini chainsaw on the market.
It’s great for any job:
- Wood Cutting
- Tree Trimming
- Gardening
- Camping
But is it the best?
Off the bat, we liked that the Bomves had a full-hand guard for safety purposes. It was safe enough to protect your hand from anything but also not too bulky to prevent you from cutting trees.
Like all mini chainsaws, it’s a one handed tool that's extremely convenient for quick jobs. It weighs just over a pound so it shouldn’t be an issue for most people. Mini chainsaws aren't heavy.
This fierce little beast can cut up to 19.2 ft/s which sets it apart from other mini chainsaws. It’s extremely fast compared to other mini chainsaws on the market.
It had enough power to cut through 3-inches of deadwood but it did cut a little bit rough. It wasn't super smooth and had some kick but it did get through the wood.
I would have to say this is not the tool you want to use for cutting large amounts of firewood. Be sure you are reapplying oil to the chain because it doesn't have an automatic oiler.
The battery is 3000 mAh. It can last for about 25 - 30 minutes, so the mini chainsaw must draw roughly 300 mAh current for work. In the field, it felt like closer to 20 minutes per battery but we really were testing to see what it could do.
However, this model comes with two batteries so you can use it for up to an hour if both are charged. They take about 1.5 hours to charge.
Not only that, but the batteries are extremely safe. They are designed to protect from overheating or explosion.
The tool kit itself came with a cleaning brush, too, which is a nice feature. It doesn't make the chainsaw any better but cleaning your chainsaw regularly makes sure it doesn't overheat and break down.

Best Handheld Mini Chainsaw: Saker Mini Electric Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a popular and effective mini chainsaw for cutting branches or cleaning up the garden
Saker Mini Electric Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- 4 or 6-inch mini chainsaw
- Small carpentry repairs, yard maintenance, garden trimming
- Handheld electric saw
- Chain speed of 26.2 ft/s
PROS
CONS
In my Saker Mini Chainsaw review, I gave it a positive review. I really like this tool.
The one I looked at had only a 4 inch bar but it was an efficient cutter for anything up to 4 inches. It cut through live pine trees, palm trees, ash trees, and even fruit trees.
Like most mini chainsaws, it would be best to stay away from too much hardwood and deadwood. These tools are really meant for small pruning jobs.
Unlike the Bomves above, the safety handle on the Saker is open ended at the bottom. We haven’t noticed a problem with this yet but its something to consider.
The tool is great for most DIY Projects around the house:
- Small carpentry repairs
- Pruning small tree branches
- Trimming up the garden
- Simple yard maintenance
- It’s a small beast that packs quite a punch.

Best 4-Inch Mini Chainsaw: RSLOO 4-inch Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a heavier mini chainsaw for added power to the 4-inch blade.
RSLOO 4-Inch Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Heavier 4-inch mini chainsaw
- Home improvement, pruning the garden, and other DIY Projects
- Pure copper motor
- Rotatable baffle
PROS
CONS
At 2.4 pounds, the RSLOO 4-inch mini chainsaw is on the heavier end of mini chainsaws. Miniature chainsaws aren’t designed for extensive logging so the weight shouldn’t be an issue for most people.
These miniature chainsaw companies try to outdo each other in the subtlest of ways. The RSLOO comes with 21V batteries at 1.5 Ah so you can expect a little bit more power than the Saker.
Though the RSLOO cuts pretty smooth, I found the safety baffle over the blade to be a bit of a nuisance on longer cuts.
The pack out for the RSLOO 4-inch is pretty cool. Comes with three chains, two batteries, a wrench, a screwdriver, a brush, a charger, chain oil, and of course, the chainsaw itself.
Some of these mini chainsaw brands are trying to up the ante by giving us things like cheap work gloves and safety glasses along with the chainsaw.
We don’t really need it but it is a nice touch. The gloves in this pack aren’t great quality though and probably won’t last.

Best Fastest Cutting Mini Chainsaw: Bei & Hong Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want something that cuts faster than the rest.
Bei & Hong Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Oil bubble and small fuel tank
- Ergonomic handle
- 775 High Power Pure Copper Motor
- Chain speed of 26.2 ft/s
PROS
CONS
The Bei & Hong comes in strong with faster cutting, and high powered copper motor. At 26.2 ft/s, it is one of the fastest models on this list. But do you really need all that speed?
It's not bad.
Like most of the other models, the Bei and Hong comes with tons of protection mechanisms:
- Over-charge
- Over-voltage
- Over-heating
- Over-current
- Over-discharge
That's great stuff I assume. I guess they are just trying to let you know that this chainsaw isn't going to die on you.
What I really like about it is the automatic oiling system. I'm not afraid of a little bit of oil with chainsaws because for some of the other options, you have to constantly apply oil directly to the chain. That can get annoying.
But at 6-inches, and the fast cutting speed, you can make quick work of just about anything with this little chainsaw. It is a bit pricier at almost $80 per tool.

Best 8-inch Mini Pruning Chainsaw: Milwaukee Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a real chain saw but with something smaller than the norm.
Milwaukee Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Two-handed mini chainsaw
- 8-inch blade
- Reputable brand
- 7 lb chainsaw
PROS
CONS
The Milwaukee M18 Electric chainsaw comes with some serious advantages over the rest of the mini chainsaw crew.
To be fair, it might be cheating to consider this little beast a mini chainsaw, but the bar is only 8” so it’s still meant for small business.
The funny thing about the Milwaukee mini chainsaw is that they call this an M18 Fuel, Hatchet, and Pruning saw. I am unsure why they wouldn’t just call it a mini electric chainsaw - it uses an 18V battery. Marketing, I know not. But the battery life is great.
It comes in hot with 2600 RPM, which is about 975 ft/min cutting speed. Unlike the other mini chainsaws here, the Milwaukee M18 has an automatic oiler that holds about 2.5 oz. of oil.
Another cool feature about this guy is that it has a scrench holder on the machine. So even though you need to use a tool to tension the chainsaw, at least it attaches right to it so you don’t lose it.
Unlike the other models listed, this is definitely used with two hands. Also, unlike the other models, this one actually looks like a miniature chainsaw.
The classic two-handed design, with the safety guard or chain lock for the front hand.
It's not a truly compact chainsaw so it's harder to cut in tight or awkward spaces. And with the classic chain brake on the upper handle... it can be difficult. The chain brake isn't too annoying, though.
It has an ambidextrous blade break which makes it good for both lefties and righties. Most of the min chainsaws on this list were built for right-handed folks, and takes some finagling to use left-handed.
The safety break prevents you from pulling the trigger. In this case, the trigger is actually a variable speed trigger but most of the time, you’ll be using the blade in the wide open position.
It also has metal bucking spikes, which is awesome. Even some higher-end, full electric chainsaws don’t have metal bucking spikes. They have plastic, which just isn’t great.

Best Mini Chainsaw for Safety: Tingemengte Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a miniature chainsaw with maximum safety
Tingemente Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Heavy-duty 6-inch mini chainsaw
- Huge hand guard for added safety
- Handheld electric saw
- 6000 RPM
PROS
CONS
The Tingmengte Mini Chainsaw brings us back to the standard mini chainsaw design: one handed, and a bit weird looking. Although this one is a bit beefier than the other models on the list, nonetheless, it looks just like them.
Which is weird.
Out of the box you get a lot of stuff:
- The Tingmengte Mini Chainsaw
- 2 batteries
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
- Charger
- 2 Chains
- Screwdriver
Pretty solid package. It’s a bit pricey but sometimes it's worth it to just have everything you need. That being said, you probably have safety glasses, gloves and some screwdrivers but this isn't to the fault of Tingmente - I'm just saying, it doesn't really add any value to get these things.
(Admittedly, the screwdriver isn't that bad, heh!)
Now let’s check out some of the stats:
- 8-inch bar
- Single handed tool
- 3.88 pounds
- 2 x 24V 10 aH batteries (about 40 minutes of use)
- 36.2 ft/s
Not bad. In case you are wondering, the batteries don't come with a charge gauge so you won't be able to tell the power left in the battery. Not a huge deal. Not really anything at all but some people can be bother by the small details. The battery life on all these saws is pretty much the same.
The extra chain is nice because they are a bit hard to find. Some of these mini chainsaw brands just aren't in stores so most of them time you need to order them online.
Let's talk about the fat grip. Right off the bat, I noticed the hand grip for the Tingmengte was larger than the other brands. If you have small hands, you could potentially have a problem holding the tool let alone maintaining your ergonomics.
The control and maneuverability is admittedly less than other mini chainsaws because of the bulky handle. It's not easy to get to those difficult-to-reach locations with this beast. I have to admit the design is not user-friendly - certainly, not beginner friendly.
That being said, the hand grip has a huge safety guard on it to protect your hand from any wooden shrapnel. When it comes to chainsaws, you need to exercise as much safety as possible.
The blade guard doesn't go all the way up the chain. This is also uncommon from other brands. The guard for most mini chainsaws goes right up to the tip of the blade. Also uncommon is that it has an automatic oiler. We love to see it.
The longer blade combined with having more teeth on the blade gives the Tingmengte a smoother cutting feel compared to other brands. Quite simply, it's bigger.
This is another mini chainsaw that pushes almost into medium chainsaw territory. It can cut through pretty much any small to medium size branches but if you start cutting larger branches or even 2x4s, then it's going to struggle.

Best Mini Chainsaw for Gardening: Potenco Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a cheaper option.
Potenco Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 3.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Lightweight 4-inch mini chainsaw
- Pruning, cutting wood and tree logging
- Speed switch
- Chain speed of 19.6 ft/s
PROS
CONS
Ah yes, the Petenco Mini Chainsaw. What is there to say about this mini chainsaw that we haven't yet already said about the other mini chainsaws on the list?
One thing to note, especially after the Tingemente, is that the Potenco is quite miniature.
It has a 4-inch blade and overall the design is much more compact, similar to the Saker mini chainsaw. Out of the box, the Potenco comes with all the accessories the other chainsaws have with the addition of two spare bars. I don't believe any other chainsaw on the list comes with two extra bars on top of the standard gloves, chainsaw chains, batteries, safety glasses, etc.
As for the cutting power, the tool cuts clean. Again, it has a 4-inch blade so you'll be cutting properly up to about 3.5 inches.
The 4-inch blade is tiny so you'll be able to cut in some tight places compared to larger, bulkier models. I found this mini chainsaw was great for those hard-to-reach areas deep inside the brush. It comes with a set of gloves too, so when you need to get the chainsaw deep inside brush or closer to a tree, you have some added hand protection.
It's not a bad tool for light work but I wouldn't suggest you use this on heavy-duty pieces of construction wood or other finished pieces. It's for trimming trees and other small branches.

Best Mini Chainsaw for Efficiency: SOYUS Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want green a chainsaw. We aren't kidding. Seems like most options are orange.
SOYUS Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 3.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- Full rubber guard on a chain
- Tree trimming, gardening, and other DIY Projects
- Pure copper motor
- Chain speed of 16.4 ft/s
PROS
CONS
Oh the Soyus! It's big and bulky and green... and miniature, of course. Yes that's right, this is the first bright green miniature chainsaw. Like all the others on the list, this one, too, is great for pruning trees. But let's check out what we have to offer, eh?
First things first you get the 2.6 lb handheld chainsaw that's promoted for trimming branches and tree limbs, gardening, and other household activities. I never know what they mean by household activities as I've never used these around the house other than testing them on things I wouldn't otherwise use them on, like cutting finished construction wood - but I digress.
Like every other brand on the list, you get the usual suspects: the chainsaw, two batteries, extra chainsaw, safety glasses, gloves, and some other tools. SOYUS is a reputable brand that has a good line of power tools. This mini chainsaw can be added to the list.
The 6-inch blade always gets the edge over the 4-inch blade. It's only $10 more than the 4-inch, so we don't see why you wouldn't just go with the large saw. It has the standard mini chainsaw design so it's good for those hard-to-reach areas. And the high-quality guide chain is nice, too.

Best Brushless Mini Chainsaw: Greenworks Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want brushless mini chainsaw
Greenworks Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- 6-inch, 24V mini chainsaw
- Hardened steel bar
- Tool-free tensioning
- Chain speed of 25.6 ft/s
PROS
CONS
Greenwork makes the dream work! Okay okay. But unlike most of the other tools on this list, Greenworks is a more common name. And they bring the most expensive mini chainsaw to the list. The biggest con of their 24V 6" truBrushless Pruning saw is that it is $156. Wow. Why is it so much more expensive?
Unlike the other mini chainsaws on the list, this one doesn't come with all the added garbage. It's the chainsaw, one battery and one oil bottle. It has a 6" chain and bar with a safety guard that reaches beyond the tip of the blade.
Compare to other models, the Greenworks mini chainsaw boasts a 25.6 ft/s cutting speed. It has a hardened steel bar for extra cutting power and it comes with tool-free chain tensioning. That's pretty cool.
In the field, the 6" chainsaw chain is ideal for trimming branches, and downing small trees. Despite its small size, it has a good amount of cutting power. The 24V battery is one of the beefier batteries on the list so you'll be able to cut all day depending on the job.
Have to say, the Greenworks mini makes a good case for the best mini chainsaw. The steep price might be a bit too much for most folks doing backyard work.
Unfortunately, there is no higher guarantee that the price tag offers more reliability either as the Greenworks Mini Chainsaw has one of the lowest amounts of reviews on the list. That's usually a bad sign.

Best Mini Chainsaw With Automatic Oiler: Tietoc Mini Chainsaw
Good for: Homeowners who want a senior-friendly option for around the house jobs that has an automatic oiling system.
Tietoc Mini Chainsaw

SNE Score: 4.5/5
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
- 6-inch mini chainsaw
- Tree trimming, gardening and other DIY Projects
- Handheld electric saw
- Chain speed of 19.2 ft/s
PROS
CONS
Last but not least, the Tietoc Mini Chainsaw. This chainsaw made me feel right at home because it is similar to the previous versions on the list. The handheld chainsaws all feel the same.
It comes with all the fixings, safety goggles and whatnot, and some batteries and chains and such. The typical safety features are the safety lock button and chain guard. It's a good mini chainsaw. Standard. The best bet is cutting small trees or trimming up some hedges. Nothing crazy.
We do always appreciate the automatic oiler system. Nothing worse than constantly putting oil onto a chain. But the Tietoc Mini chainsaw cut just as fast and smooth as the other options. Cutting branches is the name of the game with small chainsaws.
A 6-inch blade means you can cut 5-inch branches easily. That's pretty big for pruning trees. But if you use the chainsaw properly and keep the chainsaw chain lubricated, you can cut those sizes easily.

Other Mini Chainsaws We Researched
While we tested nearly every mini chainsaw on this list, we researched more. Here are some other options that didn't quite make the list:
- Dewalt 20V Chainsaw: The Dewalt 20V Chainsaw was a little bit too big for us to include on this list, but nonetheless, it's a great chainsaw for homeowners. If you want to read the full guide, check it out here.
- V-Modest Mini Chainsaw: The V-Modest chainsaw has a cut design that is definitely geared towards a female audience. It's pink! It's a nice little saw but there wasn't enough feedback on it yet for us to safely recommend.
- NaTiddy Mini Chainsaw: Another brand close to making the list but not quite enough. The weirder safety handle made the chainsaw a bit too bulky in the wrong type of way. So we left it off.
How We Picked and Tested the Best Mini Chainsaw
At the end of the day, none of these mini chainsaws will be the best chainsaws for cutting trees.
If you want something that is guaranteed to rip through wood, you will need a much bigger and beefier chainsaw.
But the options listed here do provide tons of value for their worth. Some things to consider are:
- Battery
- Bar Size
- Loadout
- Safety features
- Warranty
The University of Missouri released a guide on
selecting and maintaining the right chainsaw
1 to help the average homeowner decide. Homeowners' primary use for a chainsaw will be trimming trees around the house and cutting up firewood. A mini chainsaw could be used for even smaller jobs. Selecting the right chainsaw can be a difficult process that requires tons of research, so be sure to read this guide a few times as well as do your own research.
Battery &. Power Output
These are all battery-powered chainsaws so it's hard to say the battery was very important. I would like to sit here and tell you that a 24V meant more to me than a 21V battery but it really did not. Until we see a gas-powered chainsaw, this is all the same to me. All the mini chainsaws on this list are electric, or battery-powered, so the power output is measured in watts. Higher output equals more power and efficiency.
Bar Length
Mini electric, single handed chainsaws, seem to run in two bar sizes: 4-inches and 6-inches. However, we also covered mini chainsaws that had 8-inch bars. The bar length you purchase will be determined by the task at hand. Most of the time, a chainsaw will be able to cut through wood that's less in diameter the length of the bar. If you need to cut down logs that are 6-inches or greater, you are looking at buying a bigger saw. While bigger is usually better, you aren’t gaining too much with a 6-inch bar over a 4-inch bar. But 8-inches can do considerably more than a 4-inch mini chainsaw.
Why?
Because when it comes to bar length, you shouldn’t be cutting things bigger than the bar - at least for peak efficiency.
The difference here is that you’ll be cutting up to 4 inch branches or wood compared to cutting up to 6 inch branches or wood but you won’t push too close to either of these limits.
When we think of small DIY projects around the house, we think of small branches, pruning jobs, etc. and not giant deadwood logs.
But that’s just us.
Now, some of the bars on this list come in at 8-inches. At 8-inches, you are pushing into small to medium sized chainsaw territory, and at that point, you may need two hands to use the saw.
Loadout
Every miniature chainsaw seems to come with a similar loadout where if yours doesn't have these items, then you are probably buying something below standard:
- The chainsaw
- 1 - 2 batteries
- 1 - 2 extra chains
- Wrench
- Screwdriver
- Brush
- Charging cable
- Chain oil
Some even do this weird thing by including a cheap set of work gloves and safety glasses. That’s not a bad thing but usually they are so low quality that it’s just kind of like… why?
Safety Features
These mini chainsaws almost all have identical safety features so it's not a huge factor when choosing which one you want. One of the most obvious safety features is the chain guard. It's the big plastic piece that rests on top of the bar for almost all the models listed.
I don't actually like this guard but it does prevent stuff from flying up at you. But think, you don't have one of these with an actual sized chainsaw, why do we need one on the mini chainsaw? I guess with handheld chainsaws, that safety guard is a requirement. Since mini chainsaws don't have chain brakes, the splash guard provides added protection in case of kickback. The larger saws, up to 8 inches, will have the chain brake.
As for safety lock on the trigger, again, most of them have the same lock. You press one button with your hand to release the trigger for use. This is ideal because it means you can put the safety on so the chainsaw doesn't run by accident when not in use.
Now, the final feature is probably the hand guard. Most handheld chainsaws don't have any protection for your hand when you are using the tool. However, the Tingemente does have that fat hand guard to protect your cutting hand. If you look at the Saker Mini Chainsaw, it doesn't have that added protection.
As a side note, we don't recommend you attempt felling any big trees without the proper training. Cutting down a huge tree can be extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. PennState Extension released a great video on chainsaw safety2 that anyone can watch to get a primer on the basics.
Oiling System
If you don't like priming your chainsaw all the time by directly applying oil to the chain, then most of the mini chainsaws on the list aren't for you. Only a few of them here have an automatic oiler system. If this isn't an issue (and it really isn't for small jobs), then you'll be fine with the rest of the selections on the list
Warranty, Customer Service & Brand Reputation
Based on our own experiences and reviews on Amazon, most companies here suffer from clear warranties and customer service. Some brands don't even list warranties. And some brands apparently don't get back to their customers.
While we understand not every problem can be addressed, we gave added points to the brands that gave clear warranties and answered their customer's complaints.
On top of that, most of the brands on this list aren't super well known - including our top pick, the Taranzy Mini Chainsaw. Unsurprisingly, Taranzy was the only company that answered direct emails and had a sold reputation in customer feedback. Most of the mini chainsaws on the list here have top reviews on Amazon but with limited feedback on the brand, you need to be careful when making your decision.
